Yearbook Sales Representative — South Florida Area
At Walsworth, I’m a yearbook sales representative. This was my first job right out of college in 2000 from Syracuse University.
In my day-to-day work, I manage 95 schools in seven counties in the state of Florida to help create their best yearbooks possible. After 22 years at Walsworth, I certainly have found my groove, but the last two years have shown that all jobs are always changing and the more resilient and versatile you are, the better!
Here is my rep story: My high school yearbook adviser changed my life. Not only did she inspire me to study journalism in college, but I also continued to work on the yearbook when I went to Syracuse University. When I called her nearing my college graduation, I kept telling her the most fun I ever had working was in yearbook class. She got in touch with Walsworth, the yearbook company she used, and they took a chance on me. I owe everything to my adviser and the wonderful people at Walsworth yearbooks. I met my husband at yearbook camp, would have never had my daughter if it wasn’t for Walsworth, and wouldn’t have this wonderful career if I hadn’t been exposed to a great journalism teacher. I’m now starting my 20th straight year with Walsworth and am one of their top ten sales reps. I’m able to have a very fulfilling job that allows me great flexibility and time to spend with my daughter. When people say a teacher can change your life, they aren’t kidding. My yearbook adviser forever changed mine for the better.
What I love most about my job is setting my own schedule and in a way being my own boss. I love being out and about in South Florida visiting all my different schools. I like to be a part of something great and a winning team.
If I had a personalized coffee mug at work, it would say “I wish I was drinking this at Disney!”
A fun fact about me is I also like to read and write romance novels!
I’ve been married for 16 years, and have one daughter, Anastasia. I’m an only child myself, and lucky that both my parents are doing well at age 75 and live less than three miles from me. I have two cats, Spicy and Mabel.
When I’m not at work, I love to go to the beach and read. I love to read anywhere. I also enjoy gardening and my backyard. I’m a huge Disney addict!
Walsworth has helped me build an amazing career from a young age and given me the resources to send my daughter to one of the best private schools in our county – for which I, of course, do the yearbook!
I consider all the teaching of young journalists my biggest way I help my community. There’s nothing better than inspiring kids to tell their story from their point of view and make real-life comparisons of how they can be part of a bigger picture when they go to college. I like to see my editors succeed as I did.
A favorite memory I have here was being coached when I was in my early twenties by my mentor, Tom Barnard, and my first manager, Jim Kimmitt. The life skills they gave me have continued to help me grow to this day.
