Commercial Customer Service Representative
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ripon College; Editor-in-chief and lead designer for the College Days Newspaper, 2017-2019
How long have you been in the graphic arts/printing industry? I am new to the printing industry.
What do you do at Walsworth? I am a Prepress Technician at the Ripon, Wisconsin facility, and an Idealliance Certified G7 Expert.
Now, describe what you do like you are meeting someone at church or a party. As a prepress tech, we take customer-supplied print files and convert them into a format that can be printed on our presses. As our facility’s G7 Expert, I am responsible for ensuring those presses are calibrated to an international standard of print quality.
What brought you here? I fell in love with the Ripon area after moving here for college and decided to stick around after completing my undergrad, so when an opportunity opened up right in my backyard, I jumped on it.
Is there anything in particular that attracted you to the industry and/or customer service?
I have worked in restaurants since my first job at 14 and have always enjoyed working with and meeting new people, and I am excited to take that passion with me into a new field.
What do you like best about your job? The team at Walsworth — Ripon is, without exception, welcoming, friendly, and fun to work with.
What is the coolest thing you get to do at work? Getting to work on projects from across hundreds of different companies all around the world. It’s always interesting to get an insider look into industries I may not have even known existed before I started working here.
If you were meeting a new customer and were working on a project for them, what would you like them to know about you? I am a firm believer that anything can be accomplished if everyone works together, and no matter what the task is there is always a way to have fun doing it.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to a person who is looking for help on how to deal with our current times, with regard to your area of expertise? There’s something out there for everyone, and you never know where you’re going to find it. Two years ago I knew next to nothing about commercial printing and now I catch myself tearing apart every catalog and magazine we get in the mail to figure out how it was produced.
What are your interests outside work? Weather permitting, my wife and I love to go hiking and kayaking, but in the colder months, I spend much of my time building and painting model soldiers and armies.
Personal: My wife and I met during college here in Ripon and got married in the summer of 2020. We fell in love with the town and the people we met here and bought our first house together here in Ripon.
