John Myers
Prepress Technician – Ripon
At Walsworth, I am a prepress technician at the Ripon facility. Our job is to take the print files supplied by the customer and prepare and format them so that they can be printed on our presses. I have also recently been certified as a G7 Expert and have been working to make sure all of our press calibrations are up to date and renewing our facilities’ G7 Master Qualification.
In simple terms, my day-to-day at Walsworth largely involves processing and imposing customer files for press, but I also do some quality control and plate making.
I started out at Walsworth as a customer service rep. I am brand new to the printing industry and I joined Walsworth in 2021. I have lived in Ripon since moving here for college in 2015 and throughout my time here I had always heard great things about working at Walsworth. So when I saw the CSR position open up I jumped on the opportunity.
I think the coolest thing about my job is that through our customers I get to take an inside look at all sorts of different industries from all across the country and some from other parts of the world. I love that I am constantly learning new things through my job.
I come to work every day because I love all of my coworkers here at Walsworth and I know no matter what gets thrown our way we’ll always find a way to get it done and probably have fun doing it.
A favorite memory I have here is I was recently involved in a leadership training that gave me the opportunity to work and interact with people from numerous different departments that I don’t always see every day. It was a lot of fun getting to know everyone better.
If I had a personalized coffee mug at work, it would say “GO BILLS!”
A fun fact about me is I have been to Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France. My wife and I plan to visit Ireland and England very soon.
My wife and I both attended Ripon College here in town and decided to stick around after graduating. We bought a house together shortly after getting married and we’ve lived there for the past three years with our four cats: Oscar, Felix, August and Joey.
When I’m not at work, weather permitting, I love to go hiking and kayaking. My wife and I are working on visiting every U.S. National Park. In the colder months I spend a lot of my free time building and painting model soldiers and armies.
Working at Walsworth has given me an opportunity to discover an industry that previously I knew nothing about. Time and again it has given me opportunities to learn all about the different aspects of print production, even outside of the department I work in. The knowledge I have been able, and even encouraged, to gain through working here is invaluable.
