Chris Calderon
Service Desk Technician, Overland Park, Kansas
I currently work as a Service Desk Technician, either directly helping Walsworth representatives or assigning work tickets to the correct department. Previously I worked as a Computer Support Technician, where I helped more on the customer side with troubleshooting our yearbook website and Adobe InDesign plug-ins. I’ve worked at Walsworth for eight months.
As one of my managers said to me once while interviewing for my current role, service desk technicians are like your firefighters. We are your first line of defense for technological needs, and we need to be prepared to properly and effectively assist every single time!
I came to Walsworth because working with technology is my passion. Once I found out about the opening for a computer support position and after reading more about the company, it was a no-brainer that this was where I wanted to work.
The coolest thing about my job is figuring out why an application or device is not working as intended. One of the things that I enjoy in troubleshooting is thinking out of the box, getting creative with the solution and being able to explain it to the representative in a way that either the customer or representative will not feel overwhelmed.
My personalized coffee mug would say: “Have you restarted your computer?”
I want to come to work every day for my sons, to make sure I provide for my family and be an example for them. I have two boys; one is 10 and the youngest is six months (along with a turtle tank and two pups).
A fun fact about me is I lived and studied in El Salvador for eight years. I am fluent in Spanish.
In my free time, I love spending time with my kids, fly fishing, visiting zoos, reading and working on computers.
It’s been a dream working for Walsworth. Friendly coworkers, great supervisors, amazing customers. It’s a company that has given me the opportunity to advance in a short period of time with plenty of room for advancement.
One of my plans for this year is to work with my local community center to create programs for kids who don’t have the means to purchase technology equipment such as PCs, laptops or tablets.
One of my favorite memories of working at Walsworth is working alongside my mentor Rick Hulett; I am forever grateful for his friendship, knowledge and kindness, and for setting me up for success with the company.
