Katie Kovets
Human Resources Business Partner, Fulton, Missouri
As the HR Business Partner in Fulton, I help with strategic planning, talent management, employee relations, change management, HR compliance, data analysis/reporting and employee engagement. I have worked at Walsworth and the printing industry for 6 months.
I would describe what I do to a friend by saying: you know how every company needs someone to make sure everything is running smoothly behind the scenes? That is kind of what I do, but with a focus on people. Whether it is finding the right people to join the team, helping them grow and develop or making sure everyone is happy and working well together, I am there to lend a hand. Plus, I keep an eye on all the legal stuff to make sure we are playing by the rules. It is all about making sure the company runs like a well-oiled machine, with happy and productive people at the heart of it all.
I came to Walsworth – Fulton because my fiancé and I wanted a slower pace of life. We love the outdoors and everything Missouri had to offer. We came from Colorado and when learning about Walsworth, the company atmosphere and the culture, I knew this was the place where I wanted to continue my HR career.
The coolest part about being an HR Business Partner is the opportunity to make a real impact on both people and the business. The thing I love most about my job is seeing the tangible results of my efforts. Whether it is watching employees grow and succeed, seeing positive changes in company culture, or witnessing the company thrive because of the strategies I have helped implement.
My personalized coffee mug would say: “CHAOS COORDINATOR: Someone who solves problems you never knew existed in ways that will blow your mind. See also: ninja, rockstar, legend.”
What makes me want to come to work every day is the opportunity to help and learn. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow. Knowing that I am a part of a team working to make a positive impact in people’s lives gives me a sense of purpose and motivation.
As a child, I aspired to become an accountant. However, during my college years, I found myself deeply invested in pursuing a business degree. It wasn’t until midway through my studies that I discovered accounting wasn’t my true passion. So, I shifted my focus to the next available option within the realm of business degrees – Human Resources. Little did I know, this decision would turn out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me.
My father was originally from Indiana; at the age of 18 he and a friend packed up the car and drove out to Colorado. After being a ski bum for several years, he met my mother. Together, they started a family, and I was born alongside my younger sister.
Outside of the workplace, I play slow-pitch softball, fish and spend time with my 7-year-old pug.
Walsworth has provided me with opportunities for career growth, skill development and advancement. It has provided me with a home here in Missouri, countless friends and knowledge of the area.
I give back to my community by working with the Callaway Chamber of Commerce. My fiancé and I help community food drives and provide the homeless with warm clothes and food.
My favorite memory here at Walsworth is being involved in the first-ever Walsworth HR Summit. So many great ideas and conversations took place to help me grow as a person and a professional.
