William Smith
Human Resources, Overland Park, KS
I have worked at Walsworth for about two and a half years. I help recruit and retain great employees by working with managers across the company to fill their open positions. I get to work with people from all levels across the organization to ensure that our positions are filled and that onboarding is an informative and stress-free experience.
I learned about Walsworth from a job posting, and after doing some research on the company and learning that we are family-owned and operated and that we have a long history of growth and success in the industry, it was a no-brainer to apply. I really liked the idea of working for a company that is big enough to provide the culture and benefits of a large organization, but small enough that employees are valued and seen as individuals.
My favorite thing about my job is that I get to work with so many different people and help them accomplish their goals. It feels really good to help a great person get into a position and watch them grow within the company.
I like spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing, and I love to cook for and spend time with my family. I spend a lot of time out in nature and I always try to pick up trash when I see it. I also enjoy mentoring youth and getting to teach them about hunting.
If you were to have a personalized coffee mug at work, what would it say?
My co-worker, Allison, despises corporate jargon, so mine would probably say something like:
“Let’s put a pin in that and touch base after I’m caffeinated.”
What makes you want to come to work every day?
My days are never the same, so it’s exciting to come to work and find out what challenges are waiting for me. I’ve learned and grown so much as a professional from working at Walsworth, and I can see a path towards career growth.
Is there a fun fact we can share about you?
I am a former college football player for the University of Kansas.
What would you like to share about your family and pets?
I met my wife, Rebecca, in the third grade, and we’ve been dating since junior year of high school. We’ve been married for almost 7 years and we have a two-year-old daughter named Madilynn, plus an eight-year-old Australian Shepard named Hemmingway.
What is one of your favorite memories of working at Walsworth?
In the spring of 2023, I took a group of people from the Overland Park Office and held a morel mushroom hunting workshop after work to show them how to find and harvest the springtime delicacy. I plan to make to make it an annual thing.
