Emily Sink
Sales Department – Overland Park, Kansas
At Walsworth, I am the sales assistant to every yearbook rep in the nation, their managers, and the executive vice president of sales (Jeff Bell). I used to only handle a small portion of the nation, but I grew the position to a national level and took over executing territory assignments as well.
No two days look the same. That’s what I love about this job. No monotony. Some days I am in “email world,” processing a wide variety of requests like ordering flowers or fixing minute details in the data streams. Other days, I am working on giant projects with massive Excel booklets crunching large amounts of sales data into simplified, more palatable reports for big board meetings. I feel important and trusted.
This is going to sound nerdy, but I LOVE learning and working in Excel. I love being handed a task that used to take two hours and being able to knock it out in five to 10 minutes. It feels good because there seems to be no limit to what more can be learned in Excel. So, I’m improving every week and learning so much still!
I’ve been here since September of 2018. So, coming up on 4 years!
I was always worried I would drown in the monotony and uncaring nature of the business world, and that fear kept me from applying for office jobs for a while after graduating college. When I saw that Walsworth was a family-owned company, I knew I had to send them my application.
What I love most about my job is the atmosphere. When you are working in yearbooks, there is considerably less stress than many other jobs. For this, people are friendlier and it is easy to make them laugh. We support each other and understand each other. It’s amazing to think I get to help inspire young journalists, support my family and bond with my co-workers all at the same time.
If I had a personalized coffee mug at work, it would say, “Keep Calm. It’s just yearbooks.”
On my third day of work here, I came in to find a note on my computer that said, “You’ve really made a difference.” It really meant a lot to me then. To this day, I don’t know who wrote it. That’s one of my favorite Walsworth memories. And it’s still up in my cubicle to this day.
A fun fact about me is I studied Spanish for five years. I’m not fluent, but I can hold a conversation.
When I’m not at work, I love karaoke, doing stand-up, playing pool and I’m a huge film buff.
One of the ways I give back to the community is by donating blood. I have donated, in my lifetime, more than 12 gallons of blood. It’s gross, but it’s really important because I have a universal donor blood type.
We just bought a house, and I’m getting married to my best friend! Not only will my family have a lot more space, but my dog will finally have a back yard. And after all, that’s really what all of this is for. I wouldn’t be closing on a house without Walsworth giving me this opportunity.
Walsworth has held up their end of our unspoken agreement. Everyone has made me feel like I’m truly part of a family. There are office moms, brothers, and sisters. Some of my closest friends have come into my life because of working here. I feel understood, cared for and like I really make a difference.
