Nathan Salgado
Sales Consultant, Brookfield, Missouri
I started at Walsworth as a temp worker who drove the scissor jack around the South Plant and vacuumed the walls of paper dust. After a few months, I went to the Bindery. Then, after about a year, I put in for a position in Shipping, where I drove forklifts for six months. Then I saw an ad for a Project Director with Donning Company Publishers. I worked in that position until COVID, then came back to Donning as a Sales Consultant in 2021. In total, I’ve worked at Walsworth for almost 10 years.
I am the middleman between the printing facility and a prospect with a story to tell. My job gravitates around phone calls and emails with potential customers. I follow up on leads to explain our process and the costs involved. If they decide to move forward, I draw up and initiate the contract. I stay with the project from inception to delivery, helping where I’m needed.
The coolest thing about my job is holding the finished product, knowing I helped get it to the finish line. Sometimes they even put my name in the beginning of the book :).
My personalized coffee mug would say: “Not all heroes wear capes, but they do drink coffee.”
I want to come to work every day for my family. Without them, I’d surely be bumming it on a beach somewhere.
A fun fact about me is that I once went on vacation to Acapulco for two weeks and did not come home for three months.
I have a big and beautiful family: my wife, five kids, a dog and a cat. My children’s ages range from 15 months to 15 years – we really run the gamut at our house. It keeps us on our toes and provides endless free entertainment.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts, hunting, fishing, recording my own podcast (Baby Fat), watching football, UFC, drawing and lifting weights. Recently I’ve been trying to get into anime, 90s professional wrestling and running.
Walsworth provided me with an opportunity to grow professionally and personally. When I started, I had one child and no direction. Now I have five kids, a house with a fence, a cat, and a dog named Kelce. Real American dream-type stuff.
I give back to my community by working with intellectually challenged people in the evenings and on weekends. I have a son who is autistic and non-verbal. Working with folks with similar conditions broadened my perspective and helped me care better for my own.
In my position, I travel several times a year. This has afforded me opportunities to see parts of the country I may have never seen and meet people whose paths I would have never crossed. If I had to pick a favorite memory, it would be my first meeting with a customer. The location was in Malibu, California, at the Bel-Air Bay Club – one of the most pristine and exclusive clubs in the world. They filmed the Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin Movie “It’s Complicated” there. It really threw me into the deep end, but it’s a memory I’ll never forget.
